Huge thanks and congratulations to all TCN volunteers who supported our Pride of Place Awards judging visit on Monday 13 August. Thomastown has been nominated for the 2018 competition by Kilkenny County Council, in the 2000–5000 population category (one of eleven categories, in the overall awards).
The IPB Pride of Place Competition, in association with Co-operation Ireland, is now in its 16th year and is based on community groups demonstrating directly to the judges their pride in their place by oral presentation, exhibitions of community activities and culture and a tour of the area highlighting the aspects of which they are particularly proud… plus demonstrating real partnership with their local council and ways in which all sectors of the community are included.
Our welcome to the Pride of Place judges included presentations on our recent Thomastown Promotional Video / youth media collaboration, the Thomastown Community Centre and Concert Hall, Thomastown Creative Arts Festival and Art of Upcycling, The Watergarden Thomastown, The School Of Food, The Weir Pool and Thomastown Community River Trust – TCRT, Tidy Towns and the 2-Hour Gang, the Thomastown Reusable Cup campaign, plus various other tourism and business initiatives.
We hope our guests enjoyed their visit and experience of our town, and we can’t wait to hear the results when the Awards are announced in November! 🤞
